On the lush lower slopes of Kilimanjaro above Moshi, a scenic walk through Chagga coffee and banana farms leads to Materuni, an 80-metre waterfall pouring into a cool natural pool. Combined with a hands-on coffee tour — picking, roasting and brewing with local farmers — it is one of northern Tanzania’s most rewarding cultural days.
The trail winds through working Chagga farms growing coffee, bananas and avocado before reaching the falls, where a coffee demonstration typically follows, from picking the cherries to roasting and grinding by hand.

Best time to visit
Year-round; the trail is greenest (and muddiest) during the rains, so bring good shoes.
How to experience it with us
From $120 per person including guide, entrance fees and lunch; combine with Kikuletwa Hot Springs for the full-day version from $150.
