Elephant herd among baobab trees in Tarangire National Park

Region

Northern Circuit

Best For

Elephant herds & baobabs

Tarangire is elephant country: in the dry season, hundreds-strong herds gather along the Tarangire River beneath ancient baobab trees. The park also hosts lions, leopards, big herds of buffalo and zebra, and over 500 bird species — all just two hours’ drive from Arusha.

The park is known for its concentration of elephants, especially in the dry season, and some of Tanzania’s oldest and largest baobab trees, alongside good numbers of lion, leopard and over 500 recorded bird species.

Best time to visit

June to October, when wildlife concentrates along the river and Silale Swamp. The green season is quieter and superb for birding.

How to experience it with us
