The closest park to Arusha town packs remarkable variety into a small area: the Momella Lakes with their flamingos, the forested Ngurdoto Crater, colobus monkeys, giraffes and buffaloes — all beneath Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest peak. It is one of the few parks where you can do a guided walking safari and canoe among wildlife.

Giraffe, buffalo and colobus monkey are common sightings, with the Momella Lakes drawing flamingos and waterfowl, and clear days offering views of both Kilimanjaro and Meru’s own crater.
