Ruaha National Park

Baobab country in Ruaha National Park, southern Tanzania

Region

Southern Tanzania

Best For

Lions & remote wilderness

Combine With

Nyerere National Park

Remote, rugged and vast, Ruaha protects some 20,000 square kilometres of baobab-studded hills and sand rivers in Tanzania’s southern highlands. It shelters roughly a tenth of the world’s lions, large elephant and buffalo herds, and both greater and lesser kudu — with a fraction of the visitors the north receives.

The park’s baobab-studded hills and the seasonal Great Ruaha River support large elephant and buffalo herds, alongside both greater and lesser kudu, species rarely seen together elsewhere.
